Tour of PSD Pearabag School, Dhaka, on the 26th of February, 2017
On the 26th of February, 2017, I had the great opportunity to visit Agami’s PSD Pearabag School in Moghbazar, Dhaka. Having joined Agami’s Health for Education (HfE) Pilot team recently, I was really eager to meet the children, teachers and the Director of Program, Mr. Shibnath Sarker.
Meeting the kids was fresh and exciting, and it reminded me of my childhood days in Bangladesh. All of the students arrived on time and greeted me with smiles. There was almost full attendance that day. The school day consists of two shifts. Shift 1, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, consists of 125 younger students where the kids learned Bengali, Math and English. Shift 2, from 10:45am to 3:00 pm, consists of 75 relatively older students where the kids learned Bengali, Math, English, Religion, General Science, and Social Science. The course curriculum is strictly consistent with all the government guidelines. The students all appeared extremely well behaved, well dressed, disciplined, and clean. Shift 1 students had a brief and delightful snack break while I was there. I was happy to be able to observe live classes from the lovely teachers during which the kids were engaging and enthusiastic. It was also great to see the students of the second shift start their day with the National Anthem, “Amar Sonar Bangla...”, in a harmonious chorus.
Furthermore, I was very pleased to meet Mr. Sarker who gave me the entire tour of the place. We got a chance to discuss a bit about the HfE Pilot program, Health Cards, nutrition and food menus for the kids and, other possible improvements we could work on. Overall, I am very happy with my visit and looking forward to working with Team HfE and the great kids of PSD.
