Agami Milestones
Agami supported Schools: 2003-2023: A Journey of 20 years
School Program (SP) is the backbone of Agami’s programs, projects, and initiatives (PPI) in driving holistic and quality education for the underprivileged children in Bangladesh. In 2003, Agami started its operation by engaging with one school in Cumilla with a humble funding of $1500. In the beginning, the focus was to support critical needs like teachers’ salary, tiffin, textbooks, uniform, scholarships etc.
Over the years, the scope, reach, and activities expanded significantly. We started supporting science labs, computer labs, libraries in an effort to improve the quality of education. As we started introducing new PPIs, SP infrastructure has been an effective means to try out innovative methods and approaches. Our long partnership with Khan Academy (KA) started with converting KA multi-media content into Bangla and rolling out into selected Agami Schools.
With the experience of decade long journey and multiple projects under our belt, Agami became the leader in EdTech based educational efforts in Bangladesh. SP has been effectively leveraged to introduce many other quality initiatives like Life is Fun (LiF), Teachers’ Training (TT), Agami Chess Guild, (ACG), Improving English Teaching (IET). Here is a quick look back at the Agami SP by numbers.
EdTech Intervention in Agami-supported Schools: Driven by digital minds
Education Technology (EdTech) has been one of the major initiatives of Agami to improve the quality of education for the underprivileged children in Bangladesh.
Back in 2010 Agami signed a MOU with world renowned Khan Academy (KA) to translate more than one thousand of KA Math and Science videos in Bangla. That was the beginning of Khan Academy Bangla (KAB). That initiative through many partnerships, and successful projects morphed and rebranded into Agami EdTech in 2021.
Since then, KAB started its full fledged classroom intervention with the development of KAB platform that could be accessed offline. Over the years, nine different Agami schools were part of KAB’s intervention program. Students of Grades 3, 4, and 5 were able to learn Math through this program. Intervention included tab lab setup, ICT training for teachers, delivering Math content including worksheets and SWOT analysis.
Today, Agami EdTech provides support to Agami sponsored schools through the intervention of using digital content in regular classrooms. The student and teachers get exposure to technology and blended learning.
Our Children are the future: HfE Strengthens Physical and Mental Wellbeing
Education is the prime focus of Agami for the underprivileged children in Bangladesh. However, children’s good health is a key enabler towards quality learning. Health for Education (HfE) is Agami’s initiative to drive health awareness and other proactive measures towards children’s good health.
HFE initiative started with 500 students in a pilot project in PSD Pearabagh Primary School in Dhaka in 2016. Since then, thousands of students broadly across Agami schools came under this initiative.
In 2022, general health camps and awareness session were held in four Agami schools. Menstrual hygiene awareness sessions were also conducted.
In 2023, so far six health camps have been conducted in six Agami schools. Doctors provided basic medical services including general checkups, health screenings and consultation to students. They also offered advice on personal hygiene, nutrition, and mental health. Not only the students but also the teachers and sometimes the parents received healthcare services from the camps. They had the opportunity to connect with healthcare providers and receive valuable information about health. By increasing health awareness, our camps have the potential to create a lasting impact on students by fostering a culture of wellness.
HfE is an example of Agami’s approach to holistic education for the underprivileged children across Agami schools in Bangladesh.
