Education for Underprivileged Children : Wadi's Experience as a Volunteer!
It may be a tough pill to swallow, but not every child is as fortunate as us to have access to quality education and endless opportunities in our country. With time as I moved forward with my own education, the thought of these deprived children kept gnawing at my heart ; I wanted to reach them, stand beside them. As someone who had access to a good education system from a young age I wanted to be able to do more. And the perfect opportunity to do so presented itself when I discovered the Agami Education Foundation.
For years the Agami Education Foundation has been working to provide equity in education for underprivileged children by presenting them with new opportunities, facilities and raising funds. I got to know about Agami through my school Sunnydale and learnt of their volunteering programme, right away I knew this was the chance of fulfilling my wish of helping these children. On expressing my desire of working with them, I was warmly welcomed aboard with the team and thus began an unforgettable, eye-opening journey.
My volunteering experience with Agami was not only educational but has also woken up a more compassionate and philanthropic side of me, helping me rediscover myself as a person. With the guidance of Soma Roy and Rahima Rima, I worked hand to hand with the students at Shohag Swapnadhara Pathshala and Switch Bidyanikatan - Dhaka Uddan, two of the many schools funded by Agami and loved every moment. Standing up for these children and working to provide them with equal opportunities is not an easy task, I have learnt that it requires passion, determination and hardwork. However the fact that a small step can open wonderful doors in a child’s life and allow them to reach their full potential really makes it all worthwhile.
Moving forward I am sure this experience will contribute in shaping the path I take in life and encourage me to always, to my utmost power, help those in need. Every little action brings a change. I am filled with gratitude towards the Agami Education Foundation for letting me play a part in bringing about these positive changes in our country. Surely one day the right to education will be enjoyed by every child in Bangladesh, who will make tomorrow brighter than yesterday.
