Reason for Supporting: Slum schools for kids
Bangladesh Mohila Samity (BMS) Primary school was founded by Bangladesh Mohila Samity, a non-government organization working in particular to ensure woman and children rights in Bangladesh. This school was established in 1972 and began working with Agami in 2012 to provide basic education to the children. Although BMS is located in an urban area, most of the students come from lower-class families, particularly from slum areas. The most common occupations of the population include The majority of the population by occupation are driver, gardener, housemaid etc. who are employed at the Govt. officers’ quarter nearby. Few others are from a nearby slum called Sabjipara. With the support of Agami, school authorities run the school in single shift.
Before and After Agami
Since its partnership with BMS, Agami has been able to provide nutritious meals for students. Additionally, students receive an understanding of major days that are celebrated around the world such as International Language Day, Independence Day, Mothers Day, and also National Children's Day.
Achievements include improving training of teachers in order to help them address social issues faced by students and improve the quality of education provided. Additionally, integrating technology such as a computer lab and study tour programs helped motivate students and their families resulting in reduced dropout rates. Lastly, the curriculum was expanded to include music, drawing, and physical activity, which was key to keeping students engaged.
