Agami Distributes Survival Kits
AEF distributed food supplies and other essential items to around 3,000 households that were affected by the lockdown, as a measure to contain the COVID-19 outbreak in Bangladesh.
According to the AEF emergency response team, 3,326 families in 13 Agami-supported schools in Dhaka, Gazipur, Cumilla, Sylhet, Habiganj, Chattogram, Rangamati, and Jhenaidha received 12 kg of rice, 8 kg of potatoes, 2 liters of Soybean oil, 2 kg of salt, 2 kg of lentils, and 4 bars of soap, among other necessary commodities through 3 rounds of distribution.
AEF executive director, Ms. Nafisa Khanam officially launched the food distribution on March 28, which started at Empyrean Hope, a slum centered school located in Adabor of the capital Dhaka. In her brief address, Nafisa said “the lockdown has already disproportionately hurt marginalized communities due to a loss of livelihood, lack of food, proper health facilities, and other basic needs. We will continue to do everything possible, to support the underprivileged children and their families through this challenging time.”
Agami is committed to extending the necessary support in the fight against COVID-19, particularly in Agami supported schools with multiple relief and safety initiatives ensuring basic food security for a month and a hotline to receive medical advice from doctors.
There are also plans to address the challenges of life after COVID-19 and for back to school programs to return to Agami’s primary mission of supporting education for underprivileged children.
Agami families urge and believe that local businesses and wealthy people of the society will join in our efforts to help tackle this crisis.
